About

From physics to software and robotics.

I'm Ian Mondelaers. My experience spans software development, architecture, testing, and delivery. I’m studying Applied Computer Science at AP Hogeschool Antwerpen, with a Robotics minor, and exploring how software systems make decisions and respond to change.

My path

Learning through different disciplines.

I studied physics at the University of Antwerp from 2019 to 2021, followed by full stack web development at BeCode and an Associate Degree in Computer Programming at AP Hogeschool Antwerpen. I'm now completing a Bachelor's in Applied Computer Science at AP, with a Robotics minor. Each step gave me another way to model a problem and check whether an implementation actually behaves as intended.

Web development gave me practice connecting interfaces to application logic and data. Programming study and my internships added shared libraries, automated tests, and deployment workflows to that work. Robotics now gives me another setting in which to examine state, timing, and feedback.

Working practice

Make work clear enough to hand over.

At HolonCom, I worked across a large .NET codebase, from refactoring shared libraries to packaging and deployment automation. Debugging frontend and backend data flow meant tracing behaviour across several components.

At IntoData, I worked with a team on data integration and built a prototype for configurable database deployment. Documenting settings and setup mattered because other people needed to repeat the work.

Those experiences connect to the questions I’m exploring now: how to make a system’s boundaries understandable, how to test failures as well as normal operation, and how to leave decisions open to inspection. In robotics that includes sensing and controller state. In AI orchestration it includes tool selection and where a person should retain control. These are areas of current study and experimentation.
